The device ships with a base print speed of 30 ppm, a standard paper input of 1,140 sheets across three trays, and a maximum configuration of 3,140 sheets. Tray 1 and Tray 3 both support A3 media, and the flatbed scanner handles documents up to 297 x 432 mm. The 200-sheet ADF supports single-pass duplex scanning, and despite the mono print engine, scanning is colour-capable — useful for digitising documents that need to be reproduced in their original form.
As a Managed device, the E731dn allows print speed to be increased at any point via a software licence — from 30 ppm to 35 or 40 ppm — without replacing hardware. The monthly duty cycle scales with the speed tier, from 110,000 pages at base to 150,000 pages at 40 ppm. At 20,000 pages per month recommended volume, the high-yield cartridge (W9065MC at 48,000 pages) would typically last around two months before replacement, compared to approximately one month for the standard cartridge (W9064MC at 24,000 pages). At higher volumes closer to the 40 ppm duty cycle ceiling, the high-yield option reduces both the number of interventions and the cost per page.
The device ships with a starter cartridge (W9064MS) rated at 6,000 pages, allowing immediate deployment without waiting for a full replacement cartridge to be ordered.
